The story of Goua Robert Grovogui’s (born in 1987 in West Africa) acting starts in the spring of 2004: at only seventeen, he participates in an audition of the American theatre director Peter Sellars (Los Angeles), organized by the international art centre deSingel in Antwerp. Together with fifteen other young refugees, he plays a walk-on in The Children of Herakles, a contemporary translation of the Greek tragedy by Euripides about democracy and right of asylum. As a result of this experience, a tight friendship has arisen between Goua and Myriam De Clopper, the programme planner of performing arts at deSingel. In the following years, she would accompany him in his search for a decent place in society: following a training, having a job. Throughout the many encounters and professional experiences along the past ten years, his CV shows an impressing number of achievements: actor, chef, manager, teacher and holder of several medals in martial arts, with a specialty in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
